Festival Net Zero, 22 June 2021

Category : News

Join the conversation on making the most of net zero opportunities and the wider policy landscape for decarbonisation.

Helping businesses achieve net zero carbon emissions is at the heart of everything we do, so I’m thrilled to say we’re sponsoring Future Net Zero’s first ever Festival Net Zero. This hybrid virtual and in-person event will be a valuable opportunity for you to gain insightful thought leadership and learn from your peers, helping your business on the road to net zero.

SSE Business Energy will be taking part virtually on Tuesday 22 June, alongside those attending the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. If you’re a business energy user in the public or corporate sector, you can join in either online or in person (subject to Covid-19 restrictions) and hear from a host of speakers.

Future Net Zero will launch its Big Zero report at the festival, covering the major issues as we all work towards net zero. Experts across the energy industry, including some of the SSE Energy Solutions team, have contributed to the report. Attendees will receive a free copy or download on the day.

To complement the report, the day will include Big Zero debates. In this important year for net zero as we build up to COP26 in November, these sessions will explore subjects fundamental to the UK’s climate ambitions.

Policy: expert panel with SSE and Gemserv

10-10.30am, Tuesday, 22 June 2021

Join Sam Peacock, our Director of Corporate Affairs and Strategy, and Clare Jackon, Head of Innovation at Gemserv, for a panel debate. The conversation will focus on making the most of net zero opportunities and the wider policy landscape for decarbonisation.

Festival Net Zero - Sam PeacockAs we head towards COP26 and face tough targets to combat climate change, getting policy right is crucial to advance decarbonisation. Hear from COP26 sponsor SSE on the big questions: What do we want to see from the UK Government and internationally? Are the current policy drivers right, and more importantly, are we on track in terms of time?

Drawing on a wealth of experience working at utility regulators and sustainable energy-focused organisations, the panellists will discuss a likely roadmap for net zero transformation.

On 22 June, visit Festival Net Zero online to stream the event and the Policy debate live.

There will also be panel debates covering:

Finance: How will we fund the low-carbon transition, and what are the policy levers we need pulled? How can you raise the money in the post-pandemic market to make the changes your organisation needs for net zero?

Heat: From our homes to our offices and factories, heat has been by far the most overlooked area of UK decarbonisation. Yet energy waste is many businesses’ most significant and obvious weakness.

Change: People will need to change, and we’ll need better co-operation, diversity and new behaviours if we’re to get to net zero. Perhaps this is the biggest challenge of all – how do we tackle it?

Before the Big Zero report launch and the expert sessions, Secretary of State Kwasi Kwarteng has been invited to start the day with a ministerial address.

In the Little Zero content zone, you’ll be able to learn about key issues in decarbonising businesses, as well as some products and services that you can use right now to help you on your journey to net zero.

There’ll also be an opportunity to see how you can align your business as part of the official Race to Zero, a United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change initiative.

Alan Rance, owner and CEO of Midas Pattern, will end the day with his inspiring real-life story. He transformed his business to net zero in just 14 months, and the changes he made to his supply chain and sourcing have made his company more profitable.

I’m really looking forward to joining the conversation about net zero on 22 June, connecting with you and hearing how we can help your business cut its carbon footprint.

Visit Festival Net Zero to live stream the event on 22 June.
